Yesterday I saw To Kill a Mockingbird at the theater and it was sublime. It was just as wonderful as I’d remembered and Gregory Peck is magnificent as Atticus Finch. I haven’t cried so much in a film in ages! It is a truly remarkable film so in honor of it and the excellent book it is based on I present some of the striking covers I found of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel. Do you have a favorite? I think I like #5 the best.

Wouldn’t this be perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas dessert?

I am working this weekend, but I do get five days off next week for Thanksgiving so I’m not going to grumble too much. Thankfully, my reading is back on track and I am enjoying another Barbara Pym.

    I’m always partial to Vintage covers. I’d like to have every book from the series!
    I like five as well. Actually, I like them all except for the last one. I don’t like photos (and especially photos of people on my covers – it offends my imagination).

    I generally avoid film versions of books that I adore, but To Kill a Mockingbird is one exception – and not just because of Gregory Peck, but there could not possibly have been a better Atticus. I still have my old yellow copy, the same edition we read in high school so many years ago. It has the most boring cover possible, though the print is perfect, which is why I’ve stuck with it. All those you show are great, but I would go with #6, because this is Scout’s story.

      They did such a brilliant job with the film adaptation – the only thing I miss is Aunt Alexandra!

      I’ve never owned a copy of the book, I never even had one in high school. I really need to choose one of the lovely versions from this post to buy myself for Christmas.

    I can’t decide – I like them all. I have a lovely Folio edition of the book, and the DVD and a lot of Gregory Peck DVDs in general, he was perfect.

    I think I like the first one the best, though they are all a lot nicer than the cover of the edition I have! To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the few films I love as much as I love the book. I’m glad you still found it as good as you remembered.

      #1 is beautiful. I like the simplicity of it. I would love to own any of the copies.

    Gregory Peck – wonderful! The only cover I don’t like is #6 . I would probably choose the Vintage cover as favourite but I like #1 and #5 as well.

    I saw the film so many times growing up (in school) — and even a live production — that I was deterred from reading the book. I had a feeling of “been there, done that.” I finally cracked and read it a few years ago, and it was a truly amazing, enriching reading experience.

    I’m fond of #1, but I own #6. None of them are bad, which is unusual for a book! 🙂

      I’m glad I never had to read it in school because I have loved it since the first time I read it when I was 15. I agree that it is completely enriching!

      And yes, so many great covers – not a stinker among them, really.

    I think my favourite is #5, too. Though I like 6 a lot, which is strange for me because I’m not usually a fan of photos of people on book covers. Those macro shots, wow! Have a good Thanksgiving!

    I don’t like #6 because I’m not a lover of photographs of faces on book covers and i don’t think #4 is up to Vintage’s usually excellent standards. The others I all like, but my favourite is probably #1.

    I’ve seen cover 5 in the shops and the whole book is simply beautiful. My own version is older – it has a plain black cover with a mockingbird sketched on the front.

    I’ve still got to see the film – glad you enjoyed it 🙂

    Number 5 is my favorite also. Oh I do love that movie so! Enjoyed being reminded of what a great film it is. Happy Thanksgiving!
