I’m Back at A Certain Fondness

Mini Sunflowers

Hello everyone! I’ve decided to return to my old blog as I couldn’t quite feel comfortable at my new place. Every time I logged in to post something there I felt blocked and found myself returning to look at A Certain Fondness. So here I am again!

This year has been a slow one on the reading front so far. The only books I seem to manage to read these days are ones for the book club I co-faciliate for my city’s museum. In March, we read a brilliant book – Inland by Tea Obreht. A literary western set in Arizona, it is beautifully written with vivid characters and an amazing sense of place. Plus, it has camels.

Non museum books I’ve enjoyed are Women and Power: A Manifesto by Mary Beard and Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart. I read Shuggie Bain in about two days – another book with a very strong sense of place and well-drawn characters that was such an intense read that I felt I’d been in Glasgow for a week after reading it.

On the gardening front I’ve had a fairly great spring – my most successful effort so far. Sweet peas blossomed from seed (only two blooms but so exciting), lots of pots of nasturtiums, calendula, poppies and calibrachoa. And now I have sunflowers, cosmos and zinnias popping up to take me into late spring. However, I expect everything will be dead in a couple of weeks as temperatures are already in the 90’s and it is horribly warm. Also, my cat Flora has a penchant for eating my zinnia seedlings so those are not long for this world.

I know I’ve said this before, but I do really hope to write here more often. I miss the whole world of blogging and reading blogs – they may be “over” but I still enjoy the format and miss all my blogging friends.

So, I shall you very soon – thanks for stopping by.

  1. I’m just about to sow my zinnia, cosmos and nasturtium seeds, fingers crossed they germinate! It’s lovely to see you back!
