Hello and happy new year to anyone who is still reading this blog! How is the year treating you so far? Mine is off to a busy start, mostly at work, but I now have this week off and no reading obligations for the library so I am able to read anything I want for a blessed week. It feels exciting yet almost uncomfortable at the same time. And I can’t decide what to read! But I’m sure I’ll sort that out soon and find a book to lead me into my lovely vacation week.
Yesterday I presented my “New Year, New Reads” program to library patrons, recommending 10 books for them to consider reading in the next few months plus sharing three of my favorite books from the last decade. We had 40 people attend once again and the room was full and buzzing with happy readers and book lovers. This is the 5th year I have been presenting these programs at my library and it has slowly become one of our most successful adult programs throughout the entire system. The first time we gave the program I think we had 8 people show up. So to now regularly have an attendance of 40 people who love us and our recommendations is very gratifying.
Because of this I will continue to read buzzy contemporary literature in 2020 in order to fulfill my work obligations, but I also want to read more books just for me this year. Without guilt! And I know I say this every year but please indulge me – I also want to start blogging more regularly in 2020.
What reading or blogging goals have you set for this year?
Still here! Happy New Year to you

I intended to set none, or few – but I seem to be on the way to committing myself to more than ever…. ;(

Happy New Year! I intend to read more of my own books, but I also feel the need to borrow from the nearest library to help their stats, just in case they target it for yet more closures. I enjoyed Expiation from your Persephone pile.

I love that you are a library supporter! Our print checkout stats have gone done recently, but our digital checkouts are through the roof. Most people like the convenience of checking books out from home. I wonder how it will affect our staffing levels in the future.
I am so looking forward to Expiation. I really enjoy Von Arnim’s novels.

Happy New Year! I’m trying to get back in the swing of writing review posts — I’ve blackmailed myself into it by requesting a ton of exciting review copies from Netgalley, so it’s either write reviews of them or feel guilty about my Netgalley review percentages. I wrote two reviews today! And I’m hoping to write at least two more before the end of January, and then I will pronounce myself officially back in the swing. 😛

That sounds like a great goal – I always love reading your reviews!

Nice to see you back, Anbolyn! I realized awhile ago that reading plans usually fade like a mist over the park so I just wander in front of the shelves and grab whatever tempts me. I’m having fun working my way through Virginia Woolf’s work and want to read some of the non-fiction books that I desperately needed at the time. You know how that happens, don’t you.

Haha, yes I certainly do! I really don’t want to have any goals this year either aside from work-related reading. And I want to minimize those obligations as much as I can. Working your way through Virginia Woolf sounds wonderful!

Hello and Happy New Year to you, too! 😊 I hope you enjoy your week off to read what you want. My goals for this year are to up my reading numbers to 50 books and to be braved about DNFing books I am not truly enjoying.

Oh you should totally DNF those books! I have to do it or I would never love my reading as much as I do. Good luck on your goals. 🙂
